About Me

Just a little bit about me...

Hello!  My name is Kimberly Thompson and I am a new teacher. I spent my younger childhood years growing up in Belleville, a small southern town in Illinois. My family moved to San Antonio, Texas during my year as a fourth grader (my dad was in the Air Force, so I was what many would refer to as a "Military Brat") and was not a happy camper.  In saying so, I can definitely relate to kiddos that join a new class at the most random time of year.  There was one more move prior to beginning middle school (6th grade), but luckily it was just to a different part of the city.  After completing high school, I went on to college at The University of Texas at San Antonio and graduated in May 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Juvenile Justice.  So this pretty much means I grew up in "Ole San Antone" (this is how my dad would referred to home).

My first career began in late 2004 as a contracted Behavioral Researcher for the Department of Defense (DoD).  Through my experience, I was fortunate to gain a broader understanding in human behavior and learning.  More specifically, my assistance in conducting research studies with recently deployed Active Duty Military members gave me a chance to develop effective skills in communication and consulting.

It has always been my dream to work with the younger population (hence, my degree specialization in Juvenile Justice) and contribute to this community as a role model. After some random job experiences, due to the declining employment rate, I finally made the decision to embark upon the journey to my second career as a teacher.  I will receive my certification through ACT San Antonio, an alternative certification program.  With my final step remaining, I am so thrilled to begin my first year of teaching (a.k.a. ACP internship) as an Elementary and/or Special Education teacher!  I'm still waiting on news of my position (grade level), but...needless to say, I can't wait to get started!

Coco ~ 1 year
During my free time I love spending time with my family and friends.  With no intention of bring down the mood, I am slowly adjusting to the loss of my chihuahua, Coco...she was the one that occupied a significant amount of my "free" time.  I just think it is phenomenal how these little (or for some big) family members win your heart and become such a huge part of your life.  Pets are truly an extraordinary gift from God.  My "munchkin," Coco and I shared 13 wonderful years together...and I am not else, but thankful for that time.  On a much lighter note, more activities I enjoy outside of the classroom include: watching sports like basketball (my #2014NBAChampion Spurs) or soccer, playing games (digital in nature), and listening to music!  I'm enjoy making crafts or other DIY projects, have an addiction to quotes, a severe obsession with polka dots, and in love with fashion!  I also love traveling, shopping, reading leisurely and watching TV.  I am a true "Reality TV Junkie!"  My DVR is overworked and almost always fully loaded.

Well, back to teaching...
In preparation for my teaching internship as a post-baccalaureate, I spent a fair amount of time substitute teaching.  Which I now realize was a very good decision and opportunity to gain some experience in the field.  The thought of going into my first year without student teaching, like some of my friends that earned their degree in education, really terrified me.  Now I have come to that point and during my time preparing I found the commitment to digital presence and supportive social networking our teaching community has very fascinating.  So, I am very excited to join my fellow educators as a contributing member!  Just bare with this newbie as I learn the "ropes" as a teacher both in and out of the classroom.

Wow! I think I may have overworked the introduction...T.M.I. moment (one of my favorite or overused acronyms).

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to get to know me a "little" better!  I hope you come for a visit again...don't be a stranger.
